Time Marches On

I picked up a few more vintage items at Lene's Web today. This Westclox "Dialite" makes me think of the spare bedroom at my grandma's I used to sleep in. There was a clock similar to this one near the bed. The face glowed orange at night just bright enough to see what time it was. This one glows too and it takes me back! It's pale blue and was sitting next to a white one. When I set the time I tested the buzzing alarm and the sound of it really took me back.

These gratin dishes really caught my eye, especially the deep orange pair. The 50's color and shape is fantastic--right up my alley! I can't find a maker's mark on the orange ones.

The Hall gratin dish is less stylish but I took it anyway because it's a Hall and it's one I don't have. It's upside down to show the maker's mark. Now I just have to find uses for these new dishes. I thought they'd be handy to put chopped toppings in for tacos. It would have been nice if I could have found a matched set of 4 so that I could actually use them to serve individual gratins but Marlene said she only had these. Their colors would be appropriate around Halloween and Thanksgiving. They could serve as candy dishes then.

  1. I know what you mean about seeing old things and taking ya back. For some reason, I have been thinking about old clock radio that was on my nightstand when I was growing up. It had a timer on the radio, and I'd fall asleep with the radio paying.

How are you doing? your back?

  2. I had a white westclox like that in my early teens. I no longer have it, though I still have the clock it replaced and my stepdaughter has the clock that replaced it. It was the 70's and I just had to have a digital clock. LOL. Now the clock it replaced I should blog about, so you can see it. It is a GE clock radio made to look like a circus wagon with a lion in it. I think I got that one when I was six or seven years old. It's funny how old time pieces bring on memories.

  3. I think everyone had one of those clocks in at least one bedroom in the fifties and sixties. I know my mom did. Funny, but I can't remember what my clock looked like.

I have a white gratin dish like your brown one. It's pretty handy for baking a small casserole for two.

Are you running out of room in your cabinets yet, Amy? :D

  4. Joanna, I am waiting for worker's comp to approve my surgery, and then we are going to have it done right away. I'm too young to be in this much pain. Thanks for asking, that's was thoughtful!

Woodsrunner, time pieces are wonderful to collect. There is so much history in them and they are so interesting.

Susan, I'm running out of room in my kitchen so I'm going to be sending a box of things for you to store for me, OK? ;-)
